My name is Calvin Kunze and I am the CEO and Chief builder for Black Oak Custom Homes. I am a native Texan and Texas A&M Class of 2010. My extensive construction experience, spanning from commercial GC, commercial roofing, plumbing, electrical, residential remodels and new home construction affords me a unique perspective in the building process. I have a passion for the details, both the seen and unseen. The details are where success is either achieved or lost, and can’t be overlooked. As the industry evolves, standards change and new products are created, it’s our job as the building experts to constantly be learning and researching how we can build better quality homes. Our goal is to take your needs and desires and create the perfect home for you and your family.
At Black Oak we focus on building science and fine craftsmanship. We don’t believe in just building to code minimums, or the “that’s the way we’ve always done it” mentality. With evolving materials and methods we have to combat complacency with constant education, critical thinking and attention to detail. The what, how, and why we build is so critically important because so much has changed since just 10 or 15 years ago.
A beautiful house is always the goal, but if half of your house is hot inside during our Texas summers, you won’t be happy. We want to help you be responsible with your budget and will advise you on putting the money where it makes sense. For instance, a lot of builders will sell an enhanced insulation package, but the type and location are just as important as the amount. At a point you’re spending more money for very little additional benefit. As the building experts, it’s our job to tell you about these types of instances so you can make the best decision.
